On April 22, 2010 a new EPA rule regarding a lead safe working environment for working on any house build before 1978 has been put into effect. This rule requires any contractor to be individual certified by the EPA, as well as their business being certified by the EPA. If they are not certified, they may not legally do business. This rule has become known as the “RRP rule” and additional information may be found at http://www.epa.gov/lead
We at Sunshine Handyman were certified early in the process both individually as well as our company. When looking at the website you can see our business EPA certification.
Unfortunately, the EPA rules are vague on several key items and until such a time as they are clearly defined and we are able to find affordable insurance, we will no longer be doing some types of work. That work would be anything that disturbs 6 sq. ft. of surface on the interior of a house or 20 sq. ft. on the exterior of a house. The vast majority of projects and services we provide will NOT be affected by this rule. Please review our services page to see a small listing of the services we will still be providing. If you have any questions regarding projects that you are unsure of please feel free to contact us.
